The IAB specialises in providing high quality, relevant financial and business qualifications for financial professionals and owners or managers of small businesses. It continues to be the leading international membership body for professional book-keepers.

Established in 1973, the IAB now has many thousands of students and members worldwide.

The quality and integrity of IAB qualifications is assured though its ‘Recognition' status granted by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) and also through the accreditation of its qualifications in England by the QCA and also by the regulatory authorities in Wales and Northern Ireland.

At the time of publication, most of the IAB qualifications are eligible for government funding in the United Kingdom.

The IAB is also an approved body in the United Kingdom for the purposes of the Money Laundering Regulations 2007. This means that its members who are in practice are supervised by the IAB, including monitoring with the aim of ensuring that those members fulfil their obligations under these Regulations. This is an important role for the IAB as it is now a statutory requirement in the United Kingdom that all providers of accountancy services to clients are either registered with and supervised by an approved body (which the IAB is) or otherwise registered and monitored by HM Revenue and Customs.

The IAB aims to provide a broad and valued range of services to its members and to provide qualifications designed by and with the expertise of professionals and employers. IAB qualifications make a valuable contribution to the skills of individuals, businesses and the economy. IAB qualifications – more than ordinary, they are extraordinary.

Exams take place twice a year in January and June. Applications must be made by the candidate to their most convenient exam centre approximately 3 months previously. When the time for exams come you would need to contact the IAB directly on 0844 330 3527, explain that you are a distance learning student with AAS Training and they will appoint you to the nearest exam centre to your location

The IAB is unique in that it is both a professional body for book-keepers and it is an awarding body recognised and regulated by the relevant government authorities in England (QCA), Wales (ACCAC) and Northern Ireland (CCEA).

Most of the IAB qualifications are accredited by these authorities, therefore candidates in these countries have that additional assurance of quality that accreditation brings. Additionally, courses and examinations leading to IAB qualifications take place in many countries outside of the United Kingdom and where relevant are subject to local regulation.

Whichever qualification you choose, the qualifications have been developed not simply by education professionals but with the involvement of professional members of the IAB, employers and other relevant organisations. The qualifications then are designed to equip candidates with the necessary knowledge and skills for a particular occupational role.
